Rules for Writing RMB Amounts in Words
- When the uppercase amount ends at the yuan digit, append 「整」 (or 「正」); after the jiao digit it may be omitted; when the amount has a fen digit, never append it after 「分」.
- The words 「人民币」 (Renminbi) must precede the uppercase amount, which must follow immediately without any gap.
- When a 「0」 appears in the middle of the Arabic numeral, write 「零」 in the uppercase amount; e.g. ¥1409.50 is written 人民币壹仟肆佰零玖元伍角.
- When several consecutive 「0」s appear, only one 「零」 is needed; e.g. ¥6007.14 is written 人民币陆仟零柒元壹角肆分.
- When the jiao digit is 「0」 but the fen digit is not, write 「零」 after 「元」; e.g. ¥16409.02 is written 人民币壹万陆仟肆佰零玖元零贰分.
